Celebrity Socks Exhibition
Now extended to the end of June
BBC Nottingham were fascinated by our Celebrity Socks. They came to the Museum to interview Trustee Audrey Winkler, and then took photographs all over the museum as the socks went walkabout before going on display in Chapel Hall.
The Exhibition is now open. You have until May 14th to see exactly what some celebrities wear on their feet.
The Celebrity Socks Competition invites you to match the socks to their owner. There are 26 names on the list and the socks are numbered. The person who has the most correct numbers can choose which person's socks he/she would like to win. Entry costs £1 per line, with all funds going to the Museum. Go to the Competition Form
Two contributions that arrived too late for the competition are now on display in the Gallery - a pair of leopardskin tights donated by Gemma Arterton and the actual socks worn by Jonathan Pryce on stage as Davies, the derelict in Harold Pinter's "The Caretaker"
Gemma Arterton was a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace, and is currently appearing in Clash of the Titans with another film, Princes of Persia, just being released.
Contributors from the world of football are Ally McCoist, Archie Gemmill, David Weir, John McGovern, John Robertson, Kennie Burns, Lee Grant and Tim Hinchey, Marketing Director at Derby County Football Club.
Tennis is represented by Andy Murray, F1 Motor Racing by Jensen Button, and Hockey by Martin Jones.
Musicians include guitarist Jose Maria Gallardo Del Rey from Spain, pianist Di Xiao from China, opera singer Donald Maxwell, Marti Pellow and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees.
Damian Lewis, Maureen Lipman, Sinead Cusack, Richard Wilson and Tasmin Greig represent the theatre.
We also have socks from artist Lewis Noble, writer and columnist Matthew Parris, Michael Grade, former Chairman of both BBC and ITV, Michael Winner the film director and food critic, and Sir Paul Smith, the internationally famous designer whose business empire started out in Nottingham.
